Varsity Football Team Strikes Again

When you think about Atrisco you think of the great school it is and all of its amazing activities and sports. During the fall we have amazing sports that include cross country, football, soccer, and volleyball. These fall sports just ended on October 31st, and now winter sports are coming up. All of our sports had an amazing season this year. Our football team played pretty good this season as well but only won one game the entire season. The game was against West Mesa High School and the score was 25-6. Everyone is still wondering if the football team is going to try any different strategies or different plays this year. The current football coach, Patrick Johnson was asked, “Will the football team try different strategies to win more games this upcoming year?” Coach Patrick Johnson stated, “Yeah every year we look at different ways to improve, and during the offseason, we also look at what we can do.” This statement gives us hope that this upcoming season our football team will do better and work harder to win more games. 

Although the season was hard, our football team tried their absolute best to win each game. Considering that they just got moved up last year to 5A and that our school doesn't have enough funding or money to spend on them. Going around and interviewing some of the football players by asking them a simple question gave us an idea of what they are going to do this upcoming season. The question that they got asked was, “What improvements are you going to make this upcoming season?” Jaiden Smith, a Junior on Varsity stated, “We are going to practice even harder and try to get a new offensive scheme.” Another football player Dominic Peralta a Sophomore on Varsity stated, “We are going to practice harder and pay more attention during practice and at the games.” Finally another Sophomore on Varsity, Isaac Montano stated, “we will improve if we all show up to practice and try not to get hurt.” These responses let us know how bad they want to practice and improve for next year.

Going back to what coach Johnson said, during the offseason, they will focus on different techniques and different ways they can improve to be prepared for the upcoming season. Although coach Johnson won’t be their coach anymore, we are still not sure who is the new coach for the Varsity football team but there is hope that they will do better and fix do different plays. Even though our football team can be put down at times they know if they work together and work as a family they will complete any obstacle coming at them. With the incredible statements and responses to the questions, it tells us that they are going to work even harder next year and make sure that they prove anyone and everyone who doubted them wrong.
